FLAME

Future for Languages as a Medium for Education (FLAME) is an initiative led by the Association to support the integration of language learning with other curriculum subjects.

FLAME welcomes members from all parts of society, and all teachers in primary and secondary schools who have an interest in combining languages with other subjects, whether bringing subject topics into language lessons, teaching subject modules or teaching one or more whole subjects through a language other than English.

What FLAME does:
•Provides advice and support for schools interested in setting up a CLIL or bilingual learning initiative
•Creates cross-curricular learning modules and enables the sharing of resources
•Runs workshops at ALL’s  Language World  Conference and other ALL events
•Publishes articles about CLIL in ALL’s Languages Today magazine and the Language Learning Journal
•Arranges open classroom events to see cross-curricular language learning in action.

FLAME also hopes to:
•Collaborate in research about cross-curricular language learning in the UK
•Raise awareness of CLIL and bilingual learning to a wider audience

About our resources:

FLAME now has a separate FLAME website called FLAME+, with more information about resources, events and learning strategies, and opportunities to sign up to seeing CLIL in action. Visit the dedicated FLAME+ website

ALL has also been instrumental in setting up resource banks for language teachers, for example CLIL4Teachers, a one- stop website for teachers interested in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL).

FLAME has a dedicated  forum for questions and discussion at: www.jiscmail.ac.uk/ALL-FLAME.

ALL members are eligible to join the discussion list. If you are interested in joining and are a non-member, please join ALL.
