ALL Oxfordshire – January Teaching and Learning Event
January 19 @ 10:30 - 14:30
We would like to invite you to the ALL Oxfordshire Teaching and Learning event. This will take place on Saturday 19th January 2019 at The Taylor Institution Library, Oxford from 10.30am – 2.30pm.
We are delighted to welcome Joe Dale, Paco Fernandez, Anne-Lise Gordon and Natasha Ryan as our speakers for the event.
Joe Dale is an independent languages consultant from the UK who works with a range of organisations such as Network for Languages, ALL, The British Council, the BBC, Skype, Microsoft and The Guardian. He was host of the TES MFL forum for six years, former SSAT Languages Lead Practitioner, a regular conference speaker and recognised expert on technology and language learning. In Joe’s session, we shall look at a range of iOS apps and web tools for promoting speaking skills creatively by recording and editing audio, combining images with a voiceover and creating engaging animations and narrated slideshows which help to improve listening and speaking skills.
Paco Fernandez is a primary and secondary MFL teacher and lead practitioner based at Cambourne Village College, Cambridgeshire, who is currently carrying out a research project on how both music and imagery can aid memorisation in language learning. With music as a central focus, Paco’s workshop will contain a wealth of ideas aimed at revolutionising your everyday language teaching. Teachers and students alike will gain immediate access to a variety of engaging resources, both in and out of the classroom.
Anne-Lise Gordon is a Professor of Education at St Mary’s University and a former president of the Association for Language Learning. Challenging times require strong leaders at all levels! Anne-Lise’s talk will focus on the importance of every teacher’s contribution to leading in languages, as we seek to inspire a love of languages in the next generation of students in our schools.
Natasha Ryan is Schools Liaison and Outreach Officer, Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages at Oxford University. Natasha will run a session seeking feedback from attendees about plans for schools activities around the upcoming Babel exhibition at the Bodleian Library.
