ALL Portsmouth Primary Hub

Monday 22 March 2021 @ 16:00

(contact [email protected] for the Zoom link)

The sun is starting to shine, the sky is looking brighter, spring is on the way, and it’s time for our next meeting of the ALL Portsmouth Primary Hub.  Hopefully lots of colleagues will be able to join us at this meeting.

We are very fortunate to have guest speakers, who will introduce two exciting projects, which could be of interest, not only to primary languages colleagues but also to secondary colleagues, and also to colleagues in other curriculum areas.

David Moss from the National Association of Language Advisers (NALA) will introduce an amazing – free – online resource which supports colleagues who want to have a better understanding of the KS2 grammar curriculum and links this information to the grammar used by teachers of different languages.

Crista Hazell, Development Manager with the Association for Language Learning (ALL), will encourage us to think about how we can support and integrate language learning across the curriculum highlighting the ELAPSE resources that ALL were involved in creating.

Even though life hasn’t been very easy in past weeks and months, it has been so amazing to welcome so many colleagues to our recent online meetings.

Please do get in touch if you can make it to this meeting and I will send you the Zoom link.  And it would be super if any of your colleagues fancied joining in too!

Take care, Liz.

 Grammar in the National Curriculum

The NALA Grammar resources link the Grammar from the KS1 and KS2 Primary Curriculum with French grammar, German grammar and Spanish grammar. They build on the terminology that pupils have learnt for English and help them make links with the Modern Language they are learning.

The resources can be used by teachers, trainees, teaching assistants and pupils in both Primary and Secondary schools.

Embedding Languages Across Primary and Secondary Education through Cross-curricular Activities

Crista from ALL will share with us resources from the two-year Erasmus+ ELAPSE project which is a collaboration with colleagues from the UK, Spain, Austria and France.  Crista will present a sample of the free language resources created in French, German, Spanish and English which focus on developing language skills through (soft) CLIL methodology.
