Foreign Language Education: Unlocking Reading Conference

July 3, 2018 @ 13:30 - 16:30

University of Oxford, University of Reading and University of Southampton are inviting people to attend their project conference, relating to the FLEUR (Foreign Language Education: Unlocking Reading) reading research project.

The project investigated different ways of teaching reading to beginner learners of French in Year 7. The project, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, compared effects of (a) explicit strategy instruction, (b) explicit phonics instruction and (b) the use of challenging texts on students’ reading comprehension (and a range of other outcomes).

On Tuesday 03 July, there will be a half day conference to share the findings of the project and the implications for the findings for the classroom. Whilst the project focused on Year 7, it is anticipated that the findings will also be relevant to those teaching foreign language throughout KS3, as well as in a primary setting. The conference is free of charge to attend.

If you wish to attend, please send an email to [email protected]
