ALL has been contacted by many teacher trainers, on behalf of EU students about to take up teacher training places in the UK, who are now unsure about their official status. In response to these queries, ALL contacted the National College for Teaching & Leadership (NCTL) for their official guidance.

NCTL have asked us to share the following information with members:

“The UK is still a member of the EU and remains bound by EU law until the terms of our exit have been determined. The Prime Minister outlined in his statement on Friday 24 June, that there will be no immediate changes in the circumstances of European citizens living, studying or working in the UK.

Important information for non-UK EU nationals and EEA citizens following EU referendum result: As regards funding for ITT courses: if you have secured a place on an initial teacher training (ITT) course starting in September 2016, or are thinking of applying for an ITT course starting this year, please be reassured there is no change to the financial support available to you – further information has been published by Student Finance England. (This information is also available from the Get Into Teaching website).

Language teaching: The National College for Teaching & Leadership remain fully committed to good teaching of languages in schools. Businesses still need to trade with foreign partners and knowing a language benefits individual, social and economic prospects and the economy more widely. It also improves the mind and helps pupils understand the world in which they live and the different cultures of people around the world.”
