Saturday 16 September marked an important date for the Association for Language Learning (ALL).

The ALL Council held its annual meeting to review the previous year's activity of its Task & Finish Groups and spent time identifying its priorities for the academic year ahead.

ALL welcomed a large number of new members to Council, all of whom brought a fresh perspective and ideas as they worked in their assigned task & Finish Groups, focusing on Membership, Policy and Publications.

The ALL Council plays a key role in the governance of ALL, along with the Association's board of trustees (Management Board), its steering groups, member networks and staff. In November 2016 ALL revisited the role of the ALL Council to coincide with the launch of its Strategic Vision 2020.

ALL former Director, Rachel Middleton comments on the rationale for this in her article in the September 2017 edition of ALL's member magazine, Languages Today. She  summarises her aspirations for the newly invigorated ALL Council as follows "With such a wealth of experience, expertise and skill amongst the membership of the ALL Council, ALL wanted to mobilise this outside of formal meetings, and enable members to contribute  throughout the year to specific Task & Finish Groups. We identified that these should be Membership, Policy and Publications respectively. Each group identified three key objectives and set to work on a series of action lists with identifiable outcomes. ALL has been very lucky to recruit a large number of new Council members for the 2017/18 academic year, and importantly we have members from a range of sectors and from a range of geographical areas. Saturday 16 September was such a positive meeting. We reviewed the achievements of last year's groups and set to work with vim, vigour and enthusiasm in our newly reconfigured Task & Finish Groups. We look forward to publishing the action lists on the ALL website very soon."
