We would like to invite you to the ALL Oxfordshire Teaching and Learning event. This will take place on Saturday 13th November at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
We are delighted to welcome Liz Black, Jane Basnett, Robert Woore and Lisa Probert as our speakers for the event. Liz will be exploring strategies that promote and support speaking in the 21st century classroom. In her session Jane will take a brief look at the digital tools that can be used to help students develop speaking skills. These will include amongst many others Flipgrid, Vocaroo, & Qwiqr, Robert will be presenting on phonics and Lisa will be exploring a range of strategies to encourage student use of the target language.

Liz Black has many years of teaching experience as an Advanced Skills Teacher in primary and secondary schools. Until recently she was the MFL PGCE Curriculum Area Leader at the University of York and continues part time delivering teacher training for the Goethe Institut worldwide programme DLL. From 2022 she will be President of ALL and is looking forward to working with and supporting teachers of languages.
Robert Woore is an Associate Professor in Applied Linguistics in the Department of Education at the University of Oxford. He teaches and supervises on Master’s courses (including the MSc in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition), PGCE (initial teacher education) and doctoral programmes. Formerly a secondary school teacher of French and German, his research interests include the learning and teaching of second languages in instructed classroom settings, with a particular emphasis on phonology and reading. He is interested in the interface between research and classroom practice and has undertaken various research and professional development projects in this area.
Jane Basnett has been teaching for 28 years and is Head of Modern Languages and Director of Digital Learning at Downe House School. Despite the number of years at the chalk face she has never stopped learning and undertook an MA in Digital Technology for Language Teaching which she completed in 2016. Jane has presented at TILT (Technology in Language Teaching) Webinars for the Association of Language Learning and has provided one to one consultation for schools considering use of technology in the classroom alongside traditional methods.
Lisa has been a MFL teacher for 31 years, teaching French, German and Spanish. She is a former Head of MFL and now the hub lead teacher for the Abingdon and Oxfordshire hub of the NML SCITT and ITT coordinator.

Covid-19 health and safety:
- delegates are required to take a LFT 24-hours prior to the event
- delegates are not required to wear masks although these are strongly advised
- hand sanitiser will be available
- meeting rooms are cleaned before each use
- windows and doors will be opened, and staff will ensure rooms are well-ventilated
- CO2 monitors are deployed in rooms
