Rebecca Mitchell will introduce her podcasts on Linguistics and why our students need to know about it!
The science of language is something we all instinctively understand, although we may not realise it. It explains our communicative behaviour, serves as essential knowledge for language learners, and can offer an innovative and insightful perspective on curriculum languages. Beyond the classroom, it has the power to inspire and inform social and political change. While usually associated with modern language teaching, linguistics in fact connects almost all disciplines, from geography to music. This talk highlights its holistic importance for both educators and students, offering practical strategies to integrate linguistics into lessons, bridging language learning, the wider curriculum, and diverse cultural backgrounds.
