Bad weather did not stop play at the ALL London January Event @ SOAS, 19 Jan 2013

“At this event I was looking for help with running a Swahili workshop in Tanzania and materials on water use in various languages – and I found both,” a delegate said. Where except ALL events could this combination be available?

The spacious SOAS venue accommodated an exhibition including Routes into Languages, EU Commission Representation in London, Mary Glasgow Publications, Vocab Express, Maison Claire Fontaine and Arsenal Double Club, and heavy snow did not deter about 60 delegates from attending, many of them PGCE students.

Workshops included Routes into Languages, a group of 12 universities which encourages young people to develop an enthusiasm for languages, and Joe Dale (@joedale) on ‘Keeping your learners ‘appy‘: his dazzling presentation of what can be done with apps culminated with a slide of the most useful ‘Killer apps’. ‘Active Language Learning’ by Juliet Park (@julietdpark) included numerous inspired, but down-to-earth, ideas for using IT in European languages at secondary levels, and her videos of ‘interpretative dancing’ elicited lengthy laughter. The morning was rounded off by a “Job Application Clinic for PGCE Students” with Nick Mair, which included an unvarnished account of the realities of the demonstration lesson.

ALL London looks forward to seeing as many people as possible at the ALL London June Event – Saturday 15 June 2013 at University of Westminster!
