The Department for Education has set out their proposals for reform of initial teacher training, building on the ideas in the Schools White Paper, in their report ‘Training our next generation of outstanding teachers’.
After a consultation with initial teacher training (ITT) providers, teachers, head teachers, pupils, parents and the general public, an ITT implementation plan has been launched, including plans to provide bursaries of up to £20,000 for the best graduates to train as teachers, proposals to toughen entry requirements, suggestions for new ways for schools to lead ITT, and plans for improvements to training in early reading and behaviour management.
