Dear colleague
There has been a lot of uncertainty about future funding for primary languages. We now know that the existing grant is to be devolved to schools from April. The interesting thing is that in the funding settlement the primary languages grant is specifically mentioned – two thirds of it is maintained in the new schools grant (DSG). Although not brilliant, this is at least a statement of some kind of priority which you may be able to use in discussions with schools and LAs.
You can read more on the Languages Company website, which also links to the main DfE documents –

The news pages also contain information about the recent OFSTED report and the launch of the Curriculum Review. The latter in particular provides an important opportunity for seeking the reinstatement of compulsory primary languages so as many people as possible should be encouraged to respond to the consultation, especially teachers, Heads and parents.
