Language World 2012

Languages for ALLALL’s Language World 2012 conference and exhibition is at the University of Manchester on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 March 2012.

This year’s theme is:

Languages for all – defining today, transforming tomorrow!

You can contribute to Language World 2012 by:

  • suggesting speakers and contributors
  • letting us know of themes and topics which you feel would be of particular interest
  • offering a session yourself – anything from a full 50 minute talk to being part of a “show and tell” session
  • being there – participants are what make Language World buzz!

To send us your ideas, email Wendy Newman: [email protected].
If you’d like to offer a session and would like to talk it through with someone in advance call us on 0116 229 7600.

Call for contributions

We are currently seeking proposals for breakout sessions at Language World. These talks normally attract audiences of around 20 – 50 people. They often take the form of workshops or informal sessions. Contributions which include examples from current innovative practices and the principles that underpin them, are especially welcome.

ALL’s President in 2011-2012 is Bernardette Holmes and she has chosen the theme:

Languages for all – defining today, transforming tomorrow!

We welcome contributions which cover the following areas, bearing in mind the overall theme:

  • Motivation and raising participation in language learning
  • Improving achievement – at all key stages, especially 4 and 5
  • Progression (especially between key stages)
  • AS and A level
  • Improving speaking skills and using the target language in the classroom
  • Grammar and form
  • Creating confident and independent language users
  • Community languages
  • New approaches to language learning.

Contributions from colleagues in primary, adult education and higher education are particularly welcome.
Proposals are welcome from teachers and specialists in languages education both in the UK and from overseas.

ALL offers UK speakers:

► A free day at Language World on the day of their session
► Up to £50 towards travel costs
Travel for speakers from overseas is normally from the port of entry to the UK.
