The Big Languages Lunch
How do you say ‘Bon appétit’ in your neighbour’s language?
Today, we live in an increasingly multicultural society and what better way to share and know more about each other’s cultures than having food involved!
Enter The Big Lunch, an Eden Project, created in 2009 to encourage communities across the UK to come together by holding a great big outdoor lunch annually. An event that could be from a simple gathering to a full-blown street party, the Big Lunch is open to all communities and will take place on 1 June this year. The idea is to build and foster a stronger sense of community (and not to mention, it promises to be loads of fun) which consequently creates a positive impact on society. Find out more about how this event transformed Britain’s neighbourhoods here.
So why not get involved and try it out this year in your neighbourhood? This could be a great opportunity to meet fellow language enthusiasts or simply learn about another culture just outside your doorstep.
It is never too early to start organising it for your neighbours. Volunteer organisers can sign up today and receive their free Big Lunch pack including invites, posters and other materials to make your lunch a massive hit in the neighbourhood. Resources are also available for downloading here and can very easily be adapted to suit your potential languages-themed lunch!
