Language World 2018

23-24 March 2018

Jurys Inn, Hinckley Island, Leicestershire

Flying the Flag for Languages at Language World – ALL’s flagship annual conference and CPD event

Language World 2018 took place from 23-24 March 2018 and offered a packed programme of speakers from across the languages sector.  A large and varied exhibition showcased the latest in language learning resources and support, with much to offer the experienced and trainee teacher alike. Once again the conference proved to be a two day explosion of ideas, advice, debate and inspiration – a celebration for language teachers from around the UK and around the world to get together and recharge their creative energies.

Flying the Flag for Languages our theme and mantra for the weekend was delivered via a range of inspiring and thought provoking sessions that got delegates talking and the Twittersphere tweeting! (check out our Storify to see by how much!)

  • the keynote plenary highlighted the findings from an in-depth research exercise undertaken as part of the Language Futures initiative. Language Futures centres around student choice and agency, creating and fostering a broader language learning community beyond the classroom doors, with teachers acting as facilitators of project-based learning. Dr Rachel Hawkes presented “Language Futures – lessons for the mainstream classroom and beyond”
  • project launch – ALL is a partner in a collaborative project comprising ten international partners, developing an interactive game which will help primary languages learners and measure their progression. The project is led by the Goethe-Institut and known as THE LANGUAGE MAGICIAN. The magic happened at Language World, as the game was officially launched!
  • 1:1 career clinic and drop-in – NEW for 2018 – for student teachers and NQT’s this was an opportunity for those new to the language teaching profession to tap into the wealth of expertise and knowledge of our more experienced members.
