Arabic Zone live! Webinar

Thursday 24 September 2026 from 18h30 on Zoom

Open to teachers of any languages. Inputs will be in English (with examples in Arabic)

Themes and speakers:

Avatar: Seloua Izeboudjene: The aim of this new project is to motivate learners and increase engagement in Arabic lessons by creating a virtual character called Mulhima. Acting as an additional interactive presence, Mulhima asks questions and provides corrective and instructive feedback, helping students stay engaged, participate actively, develop their Arabic skills, and reduce disengagement and off-task behaviour.

Structured games, role-play, and collaborative tasks: Samia Henly: Samia used structured games, role-play, and collaborative tasks aligned with curriculum topics and speaking objectives. All activities were directly linked to curriculum content and key vocabulary, while providing a low-risk environment for speaking. Activities included: the Couscous Game, the Cobweb Game, structured role-play activities, peer questioning tasks, and a project where students designed and presented 3D models of their homes.

Enquiry-based learning: Amira Musa: Amira’s project focused on improving engagement and achievement in Arabic A Level through inquiry-based learning linked directly to examination themes and self-determination theory. She designed an inquiry based tourism project linked directly to Arabic A Level exam preparation. Students researched tourism in Arab countries of their choice and presented findings in Arabic.

Real-life role-play: Rasha Awad: Rasha focused on improving motivation in online Arabic lessons through real-life role-play scenarios and student choice. She created a role play project based around travelling to Dubai, where students acted out real life situations such as ordering food and taking taxis. Students also created props from recycled materials.
