The Teaching Schools Council (TSC) recently announced a review of modern foreign language pedagogy within secondary schools.
The aim of the review was to produce an authoritative report on effective language pedagogy by Autumn 2016, drawing on the available evidence and sharing examples of effective practice, with a view to providing schools across the country with thought provoking, practical advice. ALL members were asked to feed into this review, and we collected members’ views and opinions via an online survey.
A very big thank you to all of those members who took time out of busy schedules to contribute to the call for evidence from the TSC in relation to the review of MFL pedagogy at KS3&4. You can view ALL’s response here: 2016 ALL Response Call for evidence for the TSC review of MFL pedagogy.
Over the coming weeks, ALL will start to unpick the responses and find ways in which we can work as a community to extract some of the learning from members’ comments and seek ways to support you further. There are three key areas which are immediately apparent from members’ comments for ALL to consider:
- exploring how languages departments could work with other curriculum areas more closely
- providing advice or resources to support members to foster buy-in and develop whole school interest in languages
- signposting members on to sources of information and guidance to support their teaching
We will report back to you on our discussions about the response to the review. If you would like to contribute to discussion on any of the points above, please get in touch.
