ALL West of England Short Foreign Film Competition 2026

Submission deadline: Wednesday 20 May 2026

Final: w/c 29 June 2026

The ALL West of England Short Film Competition invites Year 8 and 9 students from schools across the UK to create short films of 3–5 minutes in the language they are studying. Students plan, script, film, and edit their own entries, applying their language skills in creative and authentic ways.

Is one of your students the next Amélie? Or the future Pedro Almodóvar? If so, this competition is for them! We are looking for creative, independent groups of Year 8 and 9 students to take part in the Association for Language Learning Short Foreign Film Competition. Entries due in May 2026.

The competition has been praised by teachers for motivating students, boosting confidence, and raising the profile of languages in schools. The theme or challenge for this year’s competition will be announced at the February launch, alongside full guidance for teachers.

The finalists’ showcase will take place online in early July, celebrating the creativity and talent of young linguists.

Please see the guidance here for all of the details, the entry form and a powerpoint to launch it with your classes.  It can be used however you see fit; for example as a Unit of work in itself or a fun, creative home learning activity to get their imaginations going!

They can be in ANY language which is a wonderful way to celebrate all of the languages we have in our classrooms though if it's in a language other than French, German or Spanish, it must be clearly subtitled.

You will find all of the details in the guidance and entry form here, including the deadline and the 'brief' for their films.
